About Ms. Weldon
My name is Grindl Weldon and I am the Media Specialist for Locust Fork High School. I am extremely excited to be in the media center. My goal is to make media center the heart and hub of 21st century teaching and learning at LFHS, complete with the latest technology. This year we are focusing on implementing Google Classroom and Google Apps for Education (GAFE). I love a busy media center buzzing with activity and new ideas. The media center doors are always open and students are always welcome.
I am an avid reader of all books, but especially contemporary YA fiction. Authors are my Rock Stars! I’m often a victim of “cover love,” and I’m prone to crushes on fictional characters. My super power is matching the right reader with the right book. I enjoy nothing more than talking about books with our students and my friends. Sometimes, I even talk about books with strangers!
This is my 14th year at LFHS and my 5th year as the media specialist. Before transitioning into the media center I taught English Language arts for 8 years; including 9th, 10th and 11th grade English and Honors English, 7th grade reading and AP English Literature and Composition.
In addition to being the media specialist for LFHS, I am also advisor to the award winning LF yearbook staff. The 2017 yearbook will be my 12th yearbook. Each year I have more fun with the yearbook program and each year our new book tops the last book. Eight of our eleven books published have been nationally recognized and inducted into the Walsworth Publishing Gallery of Excellence. One might say I’m a true Yerd! I am also a member of the Problem Solving Team (PST) and a lead teacher on the Continuous Improvement (CIP) team. In my spare time I sponsor the Homecoming Court, the Miss Locust Fork Pageant and the Prom.
I am a native of Montana and a 1990 graduate of Capital High School in Helena, Montana. After graduating high school I served four years in the U.S. Army, graduating from the Defense Language Institute School of Russian Studies in 1992. I graduated in December of 2002 from the University of Alabama in Huntsville with a degree in English/Language Arts and Secondary Education and started teaching at Locust Fork High School the following fall. In 2011 I earned my master’s degree in Library and Information Studies from the University of Alabama.
My daughter attends the University of Alabama. I live in Blountsville, AL and am a caregiver to my awesome mom who lives with me. I have a happy mutt and a very spoiled cat.
